POP 3 mail server

    Hi, i have set up the role on my 2003 server so thats its an email server, i set it up, now i send an email to the email of the email server, and it wont send :s, yet i have the mailbox configured :s

    What am i missing? why aint it working?

    What machine are you sending it from? Are you on a LAN?

    I.e. say you have server-email are you sending to user@server-email

    You cant send externally unless you have DNS / MX record setup for that box otherwise the email wont know where to go.

    i was sending it from my other comp but using AOL email and MSN, i want to set it up so i can use it anywere in the world.

    You need a public A-record and an MX record for your domain. You also need your mail services to be accessible through your firewall, and MS Exchange (or whatver email server you're using) needs to be setup correctly. Also, make sure the server is patched and (relatively) secure before it goes live. Open relay = very, very bad!
