I don't quite know where to post this but i think it is a problem with my vid card. When i am done playing a game and i Exit out everything is Black, i don't really know why it happens so if anyone could tell me i would like that. I can still do things, like if i Press Ctrl + Alt + Del, then i can move the mouse around and the courser will change with i go over a button but i can't see anything. If it helps i Just upgraded my comp a lot!. I have a new Mobo (see my computer specs for exact) I got a AMD Athlon 64 4000+ and i got a new PNY 7900 GS Video Card and this problem happens with Hardcore games and crappy ones like Pinball.

ok i'll try to explain it as best as i can

First i'll open up a game like Quake, F.E.A.R or even Pinball
Next when im done playing i quit the normal way and the whole screen is black, like everything single inch of my moniter is black, but....if i press some like ctrl + Alt + Del then i can move my mouse around becuase i can still see my mouse, and when i get over the X button or the Maximize button in the Taskmanager window then the mouse will change into a different courser, so i know that it can open things but i just can't see anything. Im almost positive that it is a problem with the Refresh Rate of my monitor but when i go to change it, the highest it can go is 60 so i don't know if im doing it wrong or if i just have a crappy monitor. Also i think I could fix it by lowering the Refresh rate of my Games but i don't know how that would apply to Pinball lol so i hope that helps you understand becuase i don't wanan keep pressing the Reset button everytime i need to see the desktop.

well, i'm assuming its an LCD as it won't go past 60ms for the refresh rate. Yeah honestly it sounds more like a monitor problem than a video card issue. On that at this point, your only real options are to swap hardware. Yes i know thats way easier said than done, but if it were a video card issue, i don't think anything software wise would cause that, ie. (drivers that sort of thing) Yeah so i would try a different monitor first, and then if that doesn't work then you know what to try next, although i did just think of this, its a very small possibility but it could that the vga, or which ever type of cable you are using is just bad

well its not an lcd, its a big plug and play monitor, for an Emachines Computer, and the cable seems the be fine since it is not that old, the things that makes me think it is a video card problem is that my friend just go the exact same video card as me and it does the same thing, but he has a 19 inch LCD monitor and his cord is Brand New. but my Refresh Rate on my monitor only goes up to 60 and his goes up to 75 so i don't know what to do, but it is getting very frustraiting because i was just playing fear it closed out and the screen was black

Yea, i dont think that its a problem with the monitor, i had problems with black screen before.

Try reinstalling your graphics drivers, i think there is an option in your graphics drivers properties to set the refresh rate so that all apps and full screen apps have the same refresh rate as the desktop.

what version graphics driver do you have. If its newer there should be a icon in the quick launch area (can't think of the proper name) Anyways right click on the nvidia video settings and there is an option for refresh rate. On that, get the latest graphics driver

I fixed it, lol, all i had to do was reboot with F8 and Safe mode and then go into the Device Manager and delete my Video Card, and then still in safe mode go into the Control Panel> add or remove programs, and then uninstall any drivers that had to with Nvidia and then i just reinstalled it and then i lowered the res. on my monitor and then uped the refresh rate
