Hey all, Can anybody help me with a comprehensive process of how POST (Power On Self Test) happens on a PC. I am curious to know this. I know it is a quick test on major components of a PC. But I wanted to know the flow of the POST process the moment power button is hit. Appreciate your help. Cheers !!!
the moment you push the power button that sends a signal to the PSU to turn on, once the power hits your motherboard your bios then detects the components attached to your motherboard e.g. cpu, ram, chipsets, graphics cards etc, then it sets the voltages and frequencys of them components and then its sets the IRQ's, providing everything is ok it will then complete a successfull post. If it doesn't post you've got some kind of hardware malfunction or failure. Major components needed for a successful post are: motherboard, cpu, ram & graphics card, psu and in some cases a cpu fan.
