Power Supply Shuts off at Startup

When starting a desktop machine an alarm sounds from the system speaker and then the power supply just shuts off. Replaced power supply and still recieve the same result? Any ideas? Machine is an HP model running Windows98.

Check your CPU cooling. It sounds like it's either not making proper contact or the fan has failed.

may be the reset circuit on the mobo is broken.

remove the reset switch and try again
