I just bought a new Acer Aspire 7520 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. For some kind of reason the other computers I have at home which both run XP Pro SP3 cannot share the HP 1022 Printer I have connected USB to my Acer laptop. Printer sharing is enabled and Network discovery is set to on. The other computers find my laptop when I do "search for a printer " but they dont find the printer. In the good old days when I had 3 computers all running XP Pro printer sharing was smooth and never had any problems but with this new Vista laptop its a nightmare now !

I don't know if its possible to connect my USB printer, with a USB to Ethernet adapter to my router. First reason is that sometimes I take my laptop with me and the other members of the family cant use the printer and second reason would be maybe printer sharing would be made easier !

Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

Have u tried sharing files or folders on your xp sp3 box? Try enabling file sharing and see if that helps.

If you'd have a print server box with a USB input, yeah, the printer could get on the network without a computer. A standard USB adapter typically doesn't have the proper connection in the first place, but even if it did, it's not designed to stand alone by itself.

I haven't run Vista myself, so this may be covering the same thing, but check that the printer itself is shared. Secondly, if you haven't done so, installing Vista Service Pack 1 would be a good idea as it seems to address certain issues.
