    Hi guys.

I recently received a PC from my friend, he seems to the think the motherboard short-circuited, but I've took the RAM from his pc, put them in mine and they work.

Am I wrong in thinking that if the motherboard short-circuited that it would take all the components attached to it with it? like the graphics card, RAM, CPU?

He says the screen wouldn't come on when he had the PC. Is it maybe just the PCI-E slot that's broke?

Specs (if they make a difference)

    Corsair 650W psu
    ASUS P5Q-PRO TURBO
    Intel E8400
    ATI HD 4870
    OCZ 4GB

    Thanks in advance guys =)

Did he say how it got this way in the first place ? If the motherboard did blow, you can use most of the parts on another..too see if it is the motherboard that went out, will take some testing...First test the power supply, then the video card and then the ram...
