Hello, I recently put together a new PC and I cant seem to get both my cores from my core2 duo e6600 cpu working. I have a nforce 680i sli mobo and my BIOS is Pheonix - Award BIOS v6.00PG (running windows XP pro SP2). Now I came to the conclusion that only one of my cores is working from only seeing one graph on task manager, and also when i go into my BIOS only the second core from the top is ENABLED, the other one is not even selectable to enable/disable. When I go into device manager, under computer I have Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC, I have a feeling that this may be where my problem lies as I may need to change this to Multiprocessor PC or what not, but I don't have an option to do so when I try and change the driver. I have read posts from others with similar problems with their dual core CPUs and have yet to get a fix that works for my situation, I would prefer to avoid having to reinstall my OS as I just finished loading up all my programs on this new PC only to find out im running only one core .
you may need to update your bios, go onto your mobo's manufacture's website and look for CPU support, check which update you need (it will tell you alongside your cpu) and download it once you have the update use your mobo drivers cd to get the update utility, flash (update) the bios and reset your pooter. good luck
no need for update 680 sli is newer than the e6600 and they work perfect indeed check your bios for enabling the other core if it is enabled xp is showing things wrong try to look with another specifying programme for system resources if you have not formatted your old operating system when upgrading to this problem it's the main factor then bios flashing won't give you much good and it's risky driver updates also will give you nothing olny intel application accelerator will make the cpu a bit more efficient resetting the bios may not change anything beacuse you are using this mobo firstly with your e6600 i think so jumper configuration may not be helpful check your system with everest home edition for cpu configuration too if you want some results under your hands
This is a brand new system, freshly loaded OS and all newly purchased components. It sais only one core is turned on in my BIOS settings, the second core from the top (core1) is ENABLED but the first core from the top (core0) is disabled and the option to enable it is not there. Seems like formatting my harddrive yet again and reinstalling xp, or I guess I could give vista a shot :s, is my only option. Tho I would much like to avoid this as I just finished loading up all my programs onto this new PC and would like to be able to start using it.. Thank you for the fast replies.
core0 is the default core it must be working than vista is imagining things than we can say no need for formatting your pc don't care about it it's working really
