well i installed kubuntu and two things i cant get straight. 1. dont know how to connect to the internet (newbie) 2. when i play something from library, it just skips all the tracks with no sound and just says playlist finished although sound comes out from the speakers from system bells etc how shall i fix this thanks
Well I have two questions for you based on your questions that [if answered first] would help me help you. :-P How are you trying to connect to the internet? -Through broadband or through dialup? Have you checked the tracks you are trying to play to see if they are actually the full file? I have tried to backup my files before only to find that they backed up as 0 bytes. So please check the actual file on your hdd and see if it looks like a full file (ie: 4.3mb or whatever).
well i need to connect broadband and dont really know hgow, i need to know how to get the modem detected. the files are full, trries in wmplayer and they work but not in kubuntu.
ok, your trying to get broadband working, what hardware do you have ? router or modem ? (please include make & model)
sorry, you'll find it a damn sight (lot) easier to connect to net with a router (cos it just works (is difficult to stop it working accidentally) there not that expensive, as for that modem, i'll have a look around
I use a dsl modem and I have programed it to connect automatically. This is the easiest way to connect. On the bottom of my modem there is an IP address to log into for 'advanced configuration'. Point your browser to that, is it exists, and that will store your username and password and autoconnect everytime you power on. Not the best solution but it is totally automatic and requires no configuration after that.
If Amarok is skipping tracks, it's because you don't have the correct codecs set up. Look in the 'Getting the most from Kubuntu' thread and click on the 'setting up multimedia codecs' link. Alternatively, download EasyUbuntu which can automatically set up everything for you
well i cant seem to find 'setting up multimedia codecs' link in your sticky PHP: how did ur exam go by the way
i downloaded easyubuntu but dont know how to install it. tried the readme with the terminal but i aint got internet access so it says invalid location
For future information, if you're having problems playing mp3s in Amarok, you need to: Code: sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs You'll need to install your modem first to get broadband, wired ethenet is the easiest to set up though.
Sorry if this has been posted but the sagem fast 800 uses the eagle chipset. EagleFaq:ModemSupport Here is a walkthrough for modems which use this "eagle chipset" https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsbAdslModem/EagleUsb
well thanks for this. but it aint done yet. i installed it via method 1 and it went fine but wen i try to initialise the modem via 'sudo eaglectrl -d' it says error 512 or sumthing and doesnt initialise. also one i installed it via method 1, i dont have to install it from method 2 do i? cos if i try from method 2 it also comes up with an error thanks
