Wasn't sure if I should put this in the Overclocking/Cooling forum but since I've done no overclocking I decided to post here.

I ordered a bunch of parts for a new computer from Newegg last September. The video card at hand is an ASUS 512mb Radeon X1900XT.

Everything has been running great up until about a month ago. When I first started using the PC I was playing HL2 and any other high end game I could get my hands on at near maximum settings without any problems. As of late, however, I can't even run newer games (even HL2) at low or medium settings without reaching 95+ Celsius in minutes. Basically anything I play results in tearing and artifacts until the card can't take it anymore and freezes up the computer.

I've never messed with the video card settings so there has been no overclocking involved and I've even added an additional 80mm fan blowing directly on the card which has not helped at all. The only time I can even play a newer game on this rig is when I have a box fan blowing directly into the side of the case with the side panel taken off.

The case at hand is an Antec SONATA II. If you aren't familiar with the case, there's an internal duct system that uses a 120mm fan to pull in air from the front and blow it out of the back of the case. As I mentioned earlier, I also threw in an 80mm fan that blows directly onto the video card.

The GPU is currently idling at 58C.

Do I have any options here to salvage this card before attempting to RMA? This is a last resort as I do not have any backup card while it takes its time to process.

well the celcius levels are normal clearly but the main problem is a spyware if you ask me try formatting the pc beacuse x1900xt can tolerate up to 130 degrees core temperature

by the way blowing air on a fan is not useful you gotta keep cool air condition inside the case

You might try a newer driver (try the 7.6 Catalyst ones, the 7.7 seem to have some trouble) to see if some problems are addressed.

Outside of that, it sounds like a faulty card to me.
