I have ordered some parts from Newegg, a motherboard, the Biostar NF61S Micro 754, a CPU, the AMD Sempron 64 2600+, and RAM, two sticks of G.Skill Value Series (2x1GB, cas latency of 2, DDR400), also ordered other parts, but these were all verified to work. When I assembled the computer, it would not boot, not even POST. I then took out one of the ram sticks, the fans powered on, but still no POST, I have tried various permutations of the RAM sticks, and the fans only power on when the aforementioned RAM stick is not inserted. Nothing is displayed on the screen and there are no beeps of any kind. I have no way to test these parts, because I have no other computer which supports either DDR or a socket 754 CPU. I have checked and double checked all the cables and connections, they appear to be correct. I was wondering if maybe the above information can help somebody on this forum narrow down the dead device. I was also wondering if there is any direct way to test these components with a multimeter.
welcome to hardwareforums KGo! what happens if you turn it on without the CPU in? [OT] A multimeter would only really be usefull for checking that the PSU is ok, the only feasable way to test computer components is to plug them into a computer that you know works! [/OT]
With CPU, no RAM = Fans spin, no POST With RAM, no CPU = Fans spin, no POST With CPU, with RAM = Fans spin, no POST No CPU, no RAM = Fans spin, no POST I believe that's all possible permutations, have I missed anything?
Hi there, see this post, http://www.hardwareforums.com/pc-wont-post-19244/#post121529 I had the exact same problem, I ended up havin gto replace the mobo, as everyhting else, checked out, I even replaced the BIOS chip on the mobo, stll nothing - exact same probs as you have got, no POST at all, no matter what..... Once I got my new board (Same model by the way) it's been installed and is up and running, had a few problems at first drivers etc, and random shutdowns but I've isolated that problem to power surges in my domestic electrical suppy, and have now fitted a surge protector and seems to be stable now...... Anyway try RMA'ng the board and getting a replacement, as I'd put money on it that the board is the problem..... Kaz xx
with no cpu you worked the pc, holy s**t man you pray for not having burned it at all as i said before in somewhere used second hand parts from ebay, newegg etc. i mean from the net worth nothing all from a store you can buy them, testing them with your own senses that they are working by the way have you been using a celeron 430mhz or something like that, save some more money and buy a worthwhile pc man you won't regret that you can return them back by granting that they don't work
