I just bought the Intel D945Gpm motherboard from tigerdirect ( socket 775) and the intel C2D E6600 2.4ghz processor. The motherboard says its for the intel pentium D processors. Will it work with this one because the socket the same?

PS. I also got this hyper l3 cpu cooler. Do i just pop on to the processor?

You should be ok according to wiki, but I'm AMD all the way so no expert :)

"...LGA 775 (also known as Socket 775 or Socket T) - Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron D, Pentium Extreme Edition, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Extreme, Celeron1, Xeon 3000 series, Core 2 Quad..."

Doesn't look like it. Intel updated the voltage specs for Core 2, so while, yes, it uses the same LGA775 package as the later Pentium D's, a motherboard must be designed with VRM11 specifications to properly power the Core 2's.

The cooler looks like it will pop on like many LGA775 coolers using the stock mounting mechanism provided by the 4 holes surrounding the CPU socket.
