I just bought a Gateway MX7525 last night, and I have a question about the processor. It has a MobileAMD Athlon 4000+ processor in it. It is supposed to be a 2.6 gig. However when I go to system properties it keeps changing. Last night it said 1.5 gig, and right now it is saying 775 Mhz. I suspect it has somthing to do with power usage, but I would like to know for sure.

I'm not certain as I'm not too experience with AMD chips but the notebook may have cool 'n' quiet enabled, meaning when the laptop is idling the speed is reduced and therefore the power usage and heat are reduced too. Try CPU-Z for the speed detection and tell us what it says, even better post a screenshot so we can see bus speeds, Multipliers etc...

Thats not a reason for concern, if anything its a good thing. You want battery life in a notebook, so your CPU is scaling down its frequency and voltage when usage is low to keep the CPU cooler (and therefore laptop quieter) and save battery. If you start playing a game or something that needs more CPU power the frequency will jump back up. :)
