PsU help

Im going to assemble a computer for the 1st time :D
and i am really confused about getting the power supply.

So i want to know, would any power supply work with any computer? or will it burn out everything in my computer if i install a power supply with too much or too little power ?

Im sorry for being a noob, and i am really sorry if i am asking something which was already answered, i searched Google but did not find any reliable answers. Thanks in advance :D

You'll want to invest in a quality PSU. How large of a PSU you'll need depends on what you're building. If you're using a Celeron with integrated graphics, a 350-400W unit is plenty (and probably overkill, but it's better to err on the high side). However, if you've got a quad-core CPU and 4-way SLI running with 6 hard drives, you'll need to consider a 1000W+ unit. Not all PSU's are equal, so just because a unit doesn't explode when it's plugged in doesn't mean it's a good unit. Unfortunately, the majority of reviews out there don't have the proper equipment to really test a unit and end up with reviews that judge external appearances, rather than the performance. Places like JonnyGURU, [H]ard|OCP, PC Perspective, Hardware Secrets, and X-Bit Labs do load testing with hardware designed for such things, and would be a good source to check out.
In general, you're probably safe going with the following: Antec, Corsair, Enermax, OCZ, Thermaltake, Silverstone, Seasonic, X-Clio. It's not to say they never have a dud, but typically, you're going to find a solid unit that can do what the label says.

It'll be easier to recommend a specific unit if we know what parts your paring it with. As demonstrated, there's a wide swath of power supplies.
