looking to upgrade my pc in january, already using ms server 2003,
main purpose for upgrade is rendering animations maya 8/lightwave 9,
so a lot of maths/physics going on, costed it around £1100/$1500 for msi 771 board and 2 x quad core zeon's.
does any user agree with this or have a rendering option better than this, any advice greatly appreciated,
there will be little games use,but still need basic desktop functions.
    thanks

How much the xeons will contribute to your rendering I dont entirely know but seeing as the quad-cores will cost a bomb Id maybe save the cash and spend it on a higher end graphics card than otherwise.

Dual quad-cores.... things aren't half getting complex now!

I suggest looking at a FireGL (ATI) or a QUaddro (nVidia) card as they're designed for rendering and graphics, they cost a bomb but for rendering they're the best.
