    Hi guys,

I have a little question. It would be nice if someone could help me with it.

I just bought an ABIT AV8 MB with an AMD 64 bit 3500 socket 939 processor.
I also bought 512 MB 400 mhz RAM.

How come that my FSB works at 200 mhz and my RAM only at 166 mhz in stead of 200 mhz?

I already tried to find an option to change that in my BIOS but I couldn't find 1...

    Can someone help me please?

    Thnx!

It's something to do with the timings, but I've never had an Athlon, so not sure.

    I think.

You just have to set your ram speed to 200mhz in your BIOS. I don't know how to off the top of my head, someone else will help ya out

    Thnx for the reply!

Does anyone know how to set the ram speed to 200 mhz in the bios of my ABIT AV8 motherboard?

look under advanced chipset features. Something like that. Choose either 200 or 400mhz. Your CPU and RAM communicate faster when the ratio is 1:1, that may be an option as well

    thnx for reply!

I already looked at DRAM CONFIGURATION in the ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES but didn't find it there...

The only things I can adjust there are:

DRAM CLOCK (already on DDR400 while DRAM frequency is still on 166 MHZ)
    DRAM COMMAND RATE: 2T
    CAS LATENCY TIME: 2.5
    RAS# to CAS# DELAY: 3 clocks
MIN. RAS# ACTIVE TIME: 6 clocks
    RAS# PRECHARGE TIME: 3 clocks
    ROW CYCLE TIME: 9 clocks
ROW REFRESH CYCLE TIME: 10 clocks
    RAS# to RAS# DELAY: 2 clocks
    WRITE RECOVERY TIME: 2 clocks
WRITE TO READ DELAY: 1 clocks
READ TO WRITE DELAY: 4 clocks

    Any suggestions?

Check your CPU FSB. It could be set at 166, that's why your ram is at 166?

    Help is at hand! :good:

If you can bare with me, i have an Abit AV8 & AMD64 3200+ Winchester at home, and i will post exactly how to do it in the bios. :)

Although, if you have installed all the software for the Abit AV8, it comes with something called OCGuru open this up, you can adjust the FSB of your cpu and memory via this tool, i presume you have the AV8 3RD Eye? or just the AV8?

the AV8 3RD Eye shows you on the 3RD Eye the speed your cpu is running at..

it should be 2200mhz or around abouts..

If you have OCGuru and/or 3RD Eye read your User Guide that came with the board to learn how it works, if not i'll post back later, as i have the same mother board.

Ninja, my FSB is already at 200mhz, that's why I would like to get my DDR also on that speed.

    ProcalX,

Yes, I also have the AV8 with 3rd eye and I also have the OCGuru.

I know that I can raise the FSB-speed with that and while doing that also the DDR-speed is raised. But how can I get my DDR-speed at 200 mhz while keeping my FSB-speed on 200 mhz?

I think the setting should be in advanced chipset. I'm not sure about your mobo since I generally use AthlonXPs but thats the way to do it on most mobos.
