Question about routers

Hey guys,

Recenly I hooked up a friends Belkin G Wireless router, and found it to be a verry simple setup. Now I am in the process of setting one up for myself, however I don`t need the wireless part of it. I like Belkin simiplicty, however after checking around here none of the places sell belkin's wired routers, and due to security concerns, especially since I am not going to be using the wireless feature, at least not right now, am converned about the wireless feature, however on the other hand I like the simplicty that Belkin offeres.

I was wondering if anyone here might know if you can disable the wireless function completley on belkin wireless routers or not. I have contacted belkin through email, and they were no help, referring me back to a phone number.

The 2 routers I was looking at was the Wireless G and Pre N router, which has been getting alot of praise according to the reviews I have read.

Was curious if anyone here knew of these routers, and could help me out.

i had a netgear, you could simply (if you reeaallyy wanted too) disable the wireless feature (including SSID) within the router setup page, typically by typing the router address (usually 192.168.0.1) it will tell you what the IP is on the manual /box

your widerange settings for the router will be in there, along with your wireless options

Why don't you just buy a wired router? They're cheaper, don't have the security issues of wireless and easier to set up. Netgear are good.

Thats good news, may I ask what Belkin router you have?

I am looking at either the Wirless G router (The one I setup for a friend- Extremly easy to setup) or the Pre N, (from what I have read is getting great reviews).

Addis, I would love to, buy just a wired router, but anywhere around here its all wireless, or if it is wired its its alot of d-link stuff or linksys. As far the d-link stuff goes, thats the orginal router I tried setting up for a friend, and almost thew it half way across the room, because it was such a pain in the neck. Even with the software wizzard downloaded from D-link's website I still couldn`t get access to any of the routers configurations.

That why I have to say I was impressed with Belkin. The main router configurations were done through a software setup wizzard and then uplaoded to the router, and then once you were online, then you could get into all of the advance features through a browser window.

I think all wireless routers out there allow u to disable wireless. They all come with LAN ports too, so I can't imagine why a wireless router wouldn't allow u that option. That would be plain stupid. If u ever find one that doesn't allow u to disable wireless, throw that halfway (or all the way) across the room.
