Hey, so I just recently installed quicktime 6.5.2. And now the quicktime icon is always there in the right corner of my task bar. It can't be set to not to come up. When I right click on it, the only options available are things like setting up file associations, stuff like that. So does this mean that QT is always running and taking up resources? Or is that just a shortcut? All the icons in the right corner of the taskbar represent some kind of running program don't they? Which means it's just using up my system for no reason, doesn't it? So I think this is stupid. I don't even need QT except for on rare occasions when some site plays videos through QT only. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just uninstall it and try to find an earlier version that doesn't do this? *Sigh,* sucks I must have accidentally deleted my installation file for QT 4.5 or 5.4 or something like that. Don't even know if I can find a place to d/l such an old version anymore. (The new 7.x.x versions are even more horrible cuz they're bloated pieces of garbage that install Itunes w/o any permission.)
try this just take a tick out of a box for what you want to disable of right click and select disable
Go into the control panel and click on the Quicktime settings icon. You can disable automatic startup in there. If you rarely use QT, you can uninstall it. It will ask you whether you want to completely remove QT, or keep the base installed. Choose the latter option as your browser and Realplayer will still be able to play QT files. Quicktime 7 is horrible as you say. That's why I kept to version 6.5. I installed it, then I did the above, so I could play QT in Realplayer, without QT installed.
Thanks, I think I'll try the uninstalling thing. Donkey, I'm trying this program out right now, and I gotta say it seems like a pretty cool little thing! You should put a link of that in the sticky free software thread.
