Hi all, I recently invested in a Fake raid - Silicon Image 4 port sata raid SIL3114. I bought two cheap Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB drives and created my raid with the highest stripe size availble which was 128k. Operating system is Vista 64 bit. I bench marked my raid and get a maximum read speed of 97.7mb/s and average read speed of 90mb/s. I was very dissapointed it runs like ass. I did some reasearch to find out that the drives I have in raid 0 have a maximum read of 120mb/s and average read of 101mb/s in raid 0. So why is my raid 11mbs down?

Any help will be much apreciated. Thanks.

BTW: Would a smaller stripe size make any difference such as 64k?

Ok all i did the test again today after leaving my pc on for about 2 hrs idle. Read speed was maximum 97.8MB/s and average 96.2MB/s and that's on HD Tune on accurate setting. So overall it ain't that far away. I paid £70 for both drives and that's by far cheaper than a raptor and also fairly similar read speeds for half the money and 1tb worth of space.
