The motherboard I have my eye on has 6 SATA sockets controlled by the intel ICHR chipset. The second on-board IDE controller is a Jmicron which I understand controls the IDE channel & an external SATA socket.

The IDE channel is full with 2 optical drives.

Question, can i have a raid array and a non raid Sata HDD controlled simultaneously by the intel chipset?

    Thanks for your help.

personally i've never used RAID, but you should find your answer either in the mobo manual or on wiki here

Lately, motherboards and chipsets seem to offer the ability for the user to specify which ports operate in RAID mode.
