RAID question regarding OS

Okay, I have 1 250gig Sata drive, and 2 36gig Raptors. Obviously the two raptors will be set up in RAID 0 for performance. Now, my question is this.... I plan on using the RAID strictly for gaming. All other programs and such will be on the 250gig drive. Where should I install the OS? Some have told me to put it on the RAID, but if the RAID fails, I will lose everything. Right?. Again, this comp is strictly being set up for gaming.
 
I'd put the OS on the RAID. If you're using a Windows OS, your OS will most likely fail long before one of the Raptors. Plus, Windows *really* likes it's swap file! That RAID-0 will dramatically increase your swap performance. :good:
 
Sounds good. I will still be able to run programs off of the 250 gig right? I'm asking cuz I have never worked with multiple drives before.

Yes, you will be able to run software which is installed on the 250GB drive. However, you should note that if your Windows install does die, your Windows Registry goes down with the ship. In other words, installed software which is dependant on the registry will not function, even after you reinstall Windows. You'll have to reinstall the affected software at that time.

I would like to point out if you put Windoze on the RAID drive you can still run repairs from the XP CDROM or boot it into the repair console to run chkdsk's and such.... you just hit F6 during the cdrom's bootup and supply the RAID driver as per the inital setup......
