Ive never setup RAID before and have a question. If you have 2 80gb drives can you create a 10gb partition on each and set them up as RAID 0, then create a partition with the remaining 70gb and set that up as RAID1? Also is it worth getting sata over ide? Might seem theres an obvious answer there but I never noticed a difference bewtween ata100 and ata133 so is there any difference between ata133 and sata? Ive just noticed that buying a second pata drive will cost the same as buying a sata drive. I could sell my drive and buy 2 sata drives at the same cost as having 2 pata drives. PCI RAID cards for sata and pata cost the same too.
You may as well go for the SATA drive. As well as having higher transfer rates, the cables are thinner and so give your case better airflow inside. As for the RAID, I've never heard of being able to combine multiple RAID configurations on the same drives.
