    Hi!

I was thinking about the impact of RAM on game and/or other 3D demanding apps performance (ie fps, loading times and so on).

So, from your personal experience, which game/application did rise in performance to a respectable level when adding what amount (type) of ram? Maybe some thoughts (ie experience) generally about the impact of RAM?

Well, i had a great impact when moving from 512mb - 1gb of ram, when i was using 512mb of ram, i tried playing Need For Speed Carbon at maximum settings, and it was freezing all the time, so i put another 512mb stick of ram in, and then played, and it was as smooth as silk :D, also the more ram increases the amount of applications you can open too, windows loads up faster for me as all my ram is not been used by programs now as i got twice the amount i used to, however for modern games 2gb will have a preety big impact when playing games like Battlefield 2, Oblivion, F.E.A.R, F.E.A.RXP Deffo aswell.

512mb was sufficient for most games, but I don't doubt that newer games will struggle with less 1GB. Even more so if you "upgrade" to Vista. Taking into account how many RAM slots you have available, you may want to go for a hefty upgrade to 1-2GB.

For Vista 2gb wont be good enough for games, apparently vista is set to use over 1gb of ram on its first boot when its released. Games which take advantage of 2gb, you would need around 3gb in Vista.

Things were smoother with 1GB than 512MB, although 512MB is still a workable amount. I wouldn't go with less than 1GB for a gaming box with XP, or even Windows 2000.
