My board has four RAM banks.
One has already got 512MB PC3200 module.
I managed to get my mitts on two 256MB PC2700 modules.

    My question is:
If I stick the two identicle modules in banks 1 and 3 to have 512MB in dual channel mode and the remaining 512MB in Bank two in single channel mode?

Will that give me a good speed 1gig? Or can it actualy hindre the smooth running of my rig?

No. With all four sticks, it will run in single channel mode at DDR333 speeds.

It is actualy three sticks and you are right...
It will run in single mode.
I have just tried it. I suppose it is quite obvious....

Now, Am I better off with 1gig in single mode or 512 in dual? :O

    Thanks Pelvis.

P.S - Wow - does my PC need a cleen.... :swear:

    Sorry, misread your post :)
Tough question to answer as Dual Channel increases memory bandwidth but it's also more memory chips for the OS to address.
Run all three sticks. Larger quantities of slower RAM is better than lower quantities of faster RAM.
