System: ABIT IP35 v16 bios Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 (2 1GB sticks) DDR2-800 EVGA 512-P2-N773-AR Geforce 8600 GTS 512MB GDDR3 PCIe INTEL Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz FSB1333MHz 4M Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium Just yesterday I was playing a 3D Game windowed, and had AIM in the background. This is something I do all the time. However, yesterday I got a BSOD with a memory error. Sorry I have no details, it just kinda flashed and restarted itself before I could finish reading it. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it reported no troubles. Then today, Windows was in the middle of loading and the PC just restarted and then BIOS hung after listing the connected drives. I have no PC-Speaker so I dunno if there were any error codes. I did a hard-reset and ran MemTest86+ for 3 passes and it found no errors. Other than these problems, the PC has been running perfectly fine for at least 3 months. Any ideas of what I should look at? If I should just ignore it for now?
Hi mate, Try reseating your RAM to see if theres a bad connection between that and the motherboard. If this is the case it would still pass the memory tests because at the time of the test the connection would be ok hence the running of the computer. failing this another thing that can cause this is temperature make sure that the heatsink on your fan is free of dust as this will not let the heat escape. Also have you got any temperature monitoring software running (sometime available in bios) this will tell you if your computers running too fast. Lastly i hav had this problem before with a faulty powersupply however my computer didnt bsod is just restarted irraticly so i would rule that one out for the time being. let me know how you get on Hope this helps Dave
Thank you for your reply, I will try reseating the RAM. I turned on my PC from a cold boot, and it restarted itself again today as Windows was loading. But this time I noticed another BSOD before it restarted itself. Something about running driver verifier. I turned off the "Auto Reboot on Errors" nonsense, so hopefully I can start to actually read them in the future. I checked the Event Log, and it seems as if both times the restart occured (not including the Memory Error I got IN Windows) were just after the first time I turned PC on for the day. And they both had an error in the Event Log that "i8042prt" failed to start. I have Logitech G11 keyboard, and Logitech G5 mouse. And I've had them in this PC for almost a year now. Edit: It's probably worth noting that both times the i8042prt error occured, after the PC restarted, it got stuck at the POST screen after listing the drives. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart again to get it to work.
