Hello have just re-installed windows XP. Everytime I try to download anything, computer restarts, what I am trying to download is the nitty gritty things like Adobe, Flash player on YouTube. Even when I go on MSCONFIG, to uncheck, computer restarts.

One thing I did was Downloaded GoogleChrome on my friends computer on a USB, then dowenloaded it on mine. I then downloded MSN, works superb. But on Internet explorer, Firefox, it just restarts. I hat Google chrome as have used internet exploreer for years.thanks.Abs:)

Sounds like it could be malware. Have you scanned the PC with a good AV?

Also, IE is the most insecure and least standards-compliant browser in the world. I'd reconsider if I was you. :)

I think you should update the device driver of your network card. It could be possible that the current device driver is causing problems.

But in what way does it restart? Does it say "Windows is restarting"? Or does it show a black screen, and then the the BIOS screen again? In case of the last, please read this guide to prevent the automatic restart: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/disautorestart.htm. In that case, we can see any error messages.

It could indeed be malware, but a malfunctioning device driver can also cause restarts. I've had these issues lots of times in the past.
