well, i acquired an old computer from a friend and decided to test out some OS's on it. after tinkering and installing windows xp 4 times and ubuntu linux twice I had to have pressed the manual shutdown button(press and hold the power button) about 150 times. I finally got linux to one partition, windows to the other and Grub booter to work(and much knowledge of operating systems) I restarted one more time because I had installed some stuff on windows. It shut down and then all of a sudden, it stuck on this screen.

(im using a desktop not a notebook)
    i waited for about 5 min(very unusual)
and it came up to the place where it starts booting OS's. After that, nothing happened and all I saw was the white underscore.
and it didnt move (just blinked and i couldn't press anything)
I knew this wasn't a software or OS problem because I had booted up windows and linux a few minutes before.
I can still start it, but I get the same thing, I left that computer for the rest of the night where it can rest.
Can rebooting my computer so often in one day harm my hardware?
Did it damage my hardware? If so what component?
    :x:

    thanks in advance.

Are you running off the battery or AC adapter?
