Has anyone used LogMeIn for remote access? It allows you to access your files on your home PC whilst at work through a web browser. All you need to do is install the software on the host PC (home PC), and then log in at LogMeIn when your at work

The login process uses two usernames and passwords. The first set enables you to log into the website, and the second set are for loging onto the computer. You actually use your existing Windows login to access your computer remotely.

The idea is neat, and it means you can access your files anywhere without installing software on the client PC.
 
I've heard of software like this, GoToMyPC is another, I haven't used it but I hear about it on TalkSport radio. Sounds like a good idea, as long as it is really secure.

I am a very paranoid internet surfer! Had a friend of mine not recommended it to me, I probably wouldn't have signed up!

I've taken several precautions just in case the worst happens. I leave my home PC logged on as a restrictive user. And I log in remotely as a restricted user. I haven't granted myself any kind of modify or delete priveleges either!
 
:eek: Better to be safe than sorry though!

I may try it sometime but I never need that much data with me, all I really carry around is my ICT coursework on a 512MB USB Pen Drive - I suppose I could store data on my 1GB miniSD card in my PDA but then that'd mean making sure the computer the other end had a memory card reader, that'd be too much hassle - any large files and I write them to disk, they're cheap enough.

[ot]Little story about my Pen Drive - had a 128MB Disgo USB Pen Drive for a couple of years, bashed, scratched dropped, mashed and scuffed but just keeps working (the joy of solid state storage!!), had all my ICT project on it, then I lost it the other week - luckily I had a backup of my work on the college network - :D -so I bought a new Pen Drive off ebay, not bad 512MB for £19 (inc delivery) After ordering (and it being shipped) my grandad tells me he's found my Disgo, it'd fallen outta my pocket in his car when I went out the other day - my trusted little workhorse was returned! :P so now my mum has the Disgo and I have a 512MB Streamline Drive...oh well, at least I know my trusty Disgo is safe! hehe[/ot]
 
[ot]Those Disgo pendrives are very durable! I've got a 256MB version, and it's been through hell and back! The plastics are held together with selotape! The thing still works a treat though :D [/ot]
 
There only as tuff as the casing on them!

For some reason a friend removed the casing on his [not a Disgo], and replaced it with ducktape... looked really cool, but it got a nasty bump and lost 75% of its capacity!

It can still be used for word docs etc :P
