remove/add problem

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but i bought another pc today & cannot access the add/remove option. I have double clicked in control panel & it seems as if i am being locked out as every other option works. Any ideas? Oh its windows xp btw, & i am new to this one!
 
Are you recieving any error messages or does it just not respond? It could be taking a while to compile the list of all your programs. Have you made sure you're trying using it in an Administrator account?
 
no i have no error messages. i simply click on the icon/writing & nothing. There isnt even a clicking sound (should there be one?) I am very new to win xp, as my other pc is win 98. It was my uncles you see & i did notice it kept asking if i wanted to change my password, so i did & now when i log in i give it my new pword, which i though may have done it, but still the add/remove doent seem to go. I know its not that vital, but theres a few things i dont want on the pc & i cant seem to remove them, very frustrating!
