Replace Internal Sata Hdd - Any Restrictions?

Hello,
I'm thinking of replacing the HDD of an old Lenovo x61s laptop (see below picture of the current HDD).
Before buying a new HDD I would like to know of restrictions that might be in place when upgrading the HDD on a laptop.
For example, is there a limit on things like rpm, capacity, transfer speed, access speed, SATA version, etc.
Currently the laptop runs on Win7 but I would like to use it with Linux from now on.

SATA version SHOULD not be problem (some SATA 2 drives had problems running on SATA speed for example). RPM or other speed factors should make no difference on compatibility.

Capacity SHOULD not be problem 2008 year laptops (it may be however, because laptop BIOS might contain anything).

What drive you were planning? Basically, any 2,5 inch SATA drive (SATA, NOT mSATA etc) with capacity no larger than about 320GB should not cause problems.
