Replacing a motherboard

    I need to replace the motherboard on my friend's computer, which is a compaq presario sr1830nx, but i'm not much of a hardware expert, i stick to software, can anyone do me a favor and find a compatable motherboard?

    You can not change hardware in a manufactured PC that you buy. For starters it voids the warranty and secondly it probably will not allow you too boot up as it will not recognise the new hardware i.e the mobo.

    If he has XP, can't he just do a repair and it installs the needed drivers?

    theoretically, yes - but, you need to replace the motherboard with a motherboard with the same chipset & stuff as the old motherboard, and there is no guarantee it will work
