    Hi guys,
I've searched through the forums and couldn't find a similar problem.
My current setup was 1 IDE hdd with 200 gig, with 2 partitions, 1 being for windows. I also had a SATA HDD installed for storage. Today i went and bought another SATA HDD. I plugged it in and started my pc. Going into my computer i noticed that my new sata was not there, and either was my old one. I unplugged my new SATA and still, my old one did not return. m a bit confused as to what I've done. It seems in device manager there is only 2 HDD's present. But I'm unsure which ones. I'm running windows XP, asus A8N-32-sli deluxe motherboard. (i eventually wanted to phase out my IDE but it has alot of stuff i need to transfer over to my new sata) Any help will be appreciated.

*edit* Going into disk management i can see my new sata as unallocated space, i still don't know what happened to my other sata hard drive, its not even there.

right click the unallocated space, initialize the unallocated space then format it, then try a reboot and make sure the BIOS or SATA controller recognises both SATA drives then re-enter disk managment and see if both SATA drives are there

Alright, the BIOS nor disk management is detecting my old sata. The new sata works fine, so it seems.

*edit* I switched the placement on the motherboard, and it did nothing. Still the old sata is not being recognized.

Is it possible there are too many devices attached or something? I have my ide hdd and my dvd burner on separate IDE cables.. I have no clue what the problem is here.

try swapping the data cables & try using different power cables[ot]can you hear the drive spinning up, you may have to put your ear fairly close to the drive to hear it ?[/ot]

only if you are using a hell of a lot of devices, how many are you using ?

    [ot]
just click "Edit" then "Go Advanced" and select "Delete Message" and "Delete this Message[/ot]

If even BIOS is not detecting that drive then it means problem is not with the OS. Its with the Hardware... Try Swapping Power cables and SATA cables to check if there is any problem with the cables...Jst like Dave(donkey) said in his post..
