I was given an old computer for to store notes and doc's on it is loaded with 98. When I boot it i can get as far as the desk top, but then the start button(bottom left) comes on for 2 seconds and go's and no icons show. I have done all starts i can think of Safe mode 1-5, cd98 all of them. When i go Ctrl/Alt/Del i can not see any programs showing in the box so i can not even remove anything which may not be responding. can anyone help. Thank you
Just right click on the desktop and make sure that "Show desktop icons" checked. Start button - you mean you cant see start button. Try taking your cursor down at the bottom and see if it comes up......If thats the reason then right click on your taskbar -> properties -> uncheck the autohide task bar~!
Thank you for that but sorry to say I have already done that. No icons show and also when i have gone to the bottom ie start it is not there.
