When I get my new system built I want to make use of SATA so I'll need to buy a new drive.

I have a 60GB and a 120GB ATA100 at the mo, so space is not a big issue.

Are these new WD Raptors 10,000rpm (74GB) worth their money in performance? The other option would be to go for a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 @ 7,200.

Does anyone have any experience with these new Raptor drives?

    Cheers.

it would depend really what kind of work do you want to do? gaming? it would help with the load times. Otherwise I would just buy a hard drive with more space.

For about the same price as a 74 gig raptor you can get a 200gig, if not larger, hard disk @ 7200.

So it does depend on what you want it for, really, as Sniper said.

I've used a couple of pc's with raptors, similar spec to mine, and I couldn't see any major difference.
