PC started playing up when I put in my USB Drive. Basically PC started lagging and freezing up, so I restarted.

First blue screen was Kernal_Stack_Inpage_Error (0x00000077).
Thought this was a bit strange, so restarted again.
    Second blue screen was Unmountable_Boot_Volume (0x000000ED) (0x86EFED98)

The 2nd error keeps repeating. At this point I was cursing quite a lot :)

Had a 2nd SATA drive attached so unattached the dead one, installed XP on the 2nd and am currently using it.

I cannot however, plug both SATA drives in and load Windows, with the 2nd drive being the one loading Windows. If I try it gets past the scroll bar Windows Logo and just goes black screen. Safe Mode loads the last file (I presume, gets to the last file) and then just freezes.

Of course if I put the 1st drive back in its 1st place, it doesn't load what so ever and blue screen rar.

    Wow - long post.

Anyone got any tips or tricks?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lokolo

All of that requires the use of an OS. But when I plug the drive in, XP will not load.

Everything is clean etc. etc. and the mobo can't be screwed up as I have this harddrive working.

I was going to try and CHKDSK when the PC loads but MS-DOS Startup disk doesn't have it. Don't know what else I can do. I cannot do Recovery with XP disc as for some reason it cannot detect the drive when repairing, only when installing.

Make sure that you have setted drives in correct order in BIOS. For example, OS drive on Number 1 and then rest of the drives.

Well, what's the specs of this system? Including power supply?
What temps are you seeing in BIOS?

Have you replaced the SATA cable?

I'd also highly recommend Memtest86 on your choice of floppy or CD. Boot off the disk and let it run for 3-8 hours (it takes about one to really heat up the RAM, so errors might not show up immediately),

    Abit AV8-3rd Eye
    Athlon 3000+
    1GB RAM (DDR 800 i think? 2x512)
Power not sure, 350W i think.
    Radeon 9250

Did Memtest a few weeks ago. ran for just under 24 hours. no problem.

Cables don't make a difference, tried it.

Temps are all good, i always keep an eye and never let anything go over 50c (if it gets to like 49 i shut it down for a few hours, always cautious about temp).

Cannot set the drives in BIOS, only get the option of CD/Floppy/HDD. Obviously my HDD is set to SATA drive. I have Channel 0 and Channel 1 on mobo, so I assume Channel 0 is the primary.

Built the PC in Nov 05, first problems I've had, kind of annoying, was hoping to last until end of this year.

When I get home (at school at the mo) I will run Memtest again to see any problem. Any other ways I can check things?
