I am thinking about getting a 10,000 RPM SATA HDD to put all my programs and operating system (XP) on and save files on my normal HDD - the idea being to try to speed up program load/PC boot times a little. XP is currently installed on my HDD but as it came installed when I bought the computer, I don't have a disc for it. Does anyone know if or how I can transfer my OS onto a new HDD so I can change the new SATA drive to the master drive in the BIOS? Thanks. there is no way to transfer the windows files over to your new hd. Also, it is illegal for a shop to supply a pc with software without giving you the original discs. your xp installation might not be legit....maybe. You don't have to set you SATA drive to master because only one drive takes up one socket.
don't even listen to him if anyone ask you're maing a backup for your system ok ( by the way roy92 it'sd just a joke lol i don't even know you ) norton ghost will be easier to use for this kind of job by the way we can see that your o.s. is not original you're right but, windows is nothing that deserves money but we have to buy it 10000rpm sata is just a failure sometimes numbers may not show the reality 7200rpm sata2 western digital with 16mb buffer cache is enough, but you can't see a slight difference between ide and sata today, unless you are using a 30gb or 20gb old ide disks whats the aim of saving files to old hdd and using new one?
