secure connect?

after i opened up my retail sata raptor 37GB... it came with a secure connect sata cable. i was wondering how this thing was going to get power, but on the back in instructions it said that the single conector is the power connector, and the data cable all in one...that fits on the back of teh drive very easy...i was like wow. it told me not to plug in a legacy atx power connector in at the same time the secure connect was in, making a total of 3 connections...so i didnt, powered on, and nothing, no detection.. so i tried diff sata connections on the mobo , including the raid ones, but still nothing, bios had sata enabled too . so after about 30 min, i decided to use my own sata cable, along with hooking a sata lead from the psu...it worked. i was really stumped as to why this secure connection it suggested didnt work... it told me that if both the psu lead (atx) and the secure connect were all plugged in, it would cause the hdd to malfunction. is this new type of cable not effective or what?

If you use WD's secureConnect cable then you have to use a standard 4-pin molex power too. Thats how my raptor is connected and I havent had any problems at all
