Hey, I'm having a problem with my soundcard, and I believe it's because it's on IRQ 18 - this is a virtual IRQ as well as a shared IRQ (with a USB controller). If I go to the properites of the sound card in device manager, I cannot set my IRQ manually. The option is disabled. I turned off automatic IRQ assignment in BIOS, restarted XP Pro in safe mode, and still cannot change the IRQ, but it changed to IRQ 5. Restarting in normal mode, it's back to 18. If only I could make it stick at that IRQ 5 - or 7 - I have a feeling my sound would be fixed... any advice would be appreciated.

What specific problem are you having? If it's not got a yellow exclamation on it in Device Manager, you're not dealing with a resource conflict, thus changing the IRQ wouldn't do anything.

I am experiencing some weird problems with my Roland RPC-1/SI-24 (Studio Package Pro) installation:

[1] Distorted Windows sounds, like when clicking on a link (always)
[2] Sometimes a stream of random pops will be triggered by such an action... they go on endlessly, or until another such action like clicking on a link stops them (also, starting Logic always seems to stop them). These do not register in the RPC-1 control panel as having actual level!
[3] Slowdown when playing back music or video files, regardless of player

I previously had a Compaq Intel 3.0 Ghz computer running XP pro. I experienced #1 with that as well. It died and I moved up to a Pentium D 3.0 Ghz with same OS, which should be much faster, so #3 makes no sense at all (not that any of them do). I recently disabled onboard sound in BIOS which did not help the symptoms. I've also tried adjusting latency to see if this would help, but it doesn't seem to affect things. It's really annoying not to be able to play back an mp3 properly, let alone record with confidence.

Well, the first thing I'd do is get the latest drivers, if possible, and put the sound card in a different slot---again, if possible.

Next, I'd open up Task Manager and look at the processes running.

I don't know if this is a common issue, but you might shoot Roland an e-mail about it and see if they know if any specific conflicts.
