Shouldn't Doom3 run faster than this?

Ninja is right but those workstation cards are really expensive and don't offer ATI's or nVidia's features that games usually use to the full extent. You'd be far better served with a cheaper gaming card I would think.
Though graphics buffs who want to game now and then may be satasfied.
 
Well, there *are* workstation cards you can use for gaming, which are just heavily modified versions of existing gaming hardware, but it wouldn't perform much better (if at all) than a much less expensive gaming card. They're meant for special applications, not just raw 3D performance.
 
Addis is right, the 6800 Ultra comes in a new 512mb flavor for those that can afford to spend like, twice as much as they normally would. It would be a real waste of money to buy one now, nVidia should be refreshing it's line pretty soon (Aprilish?) anyway and the prices will only drop on the 6800 series.
 
Besides, the true purpose of Doom3 is to showcase id's new truly next-generation engine, which will be (and has been) licensed and used by many other games manufacturers for many future titles. In other words, by the time you see this engine in full swing the hardware curve will be much higher anyway.
