hi when i shut my computer down the final screen reads it is now safe to turn your computer off but their is no button to turn it off (only on button doesnt work for shutdown)most atx boards auto shut down is their a setting in the bios to do this it is an aopen mx3wpro board celeron 733mhz cheers steptoe
hi pelvis acpi mode was disabled so si was selected but could not be changed i enabled acpi mode left s1 selected saved and exit but it hasnt worked any other ideas cheers steptoe
Check your Power Settings in Windows. Try the Control Panel applet or the display properties. It's within the "Screensaver Tab - Power. Select "Shutdown" in the "when you press the power button" tab.
hi bobbyk can you get back to me on power schemes in xp pro in power options properties advanced tab thier are some options but power buttons is not displayed (i know this as my second computer has this and i have shutdown selected )is it an option that has to be selected when installing windows or is it disabled because of bios thanks steptoe
If you just enabled your ACPI function in BIOS, please have Windows re-detect your hardware. Go to control panel, Add Hardware Wizard and follow the prompts.
hi bobbyk thanks for getting back to me i have enabled and disabled acpi function i have set si and s3 in acpi mode and tried hardware wizard without luck are their any other settings in bios which would affect 1 auto shutdown 2 i cant understand why power schemes are not available is it mobo(aopen mx3w) thanks again for your help steptoe
I can't think of anything else, right of the top. If ACPI is enabled, WinXP will detect it and enable Power Options appropraitely. Try dis-abling hibernate and in BIOS, dis-able Power Saving and use USER Mode.
You might be able to force Windows to go to ACPI by updating the computer type driver to a 'Uniprocessor ACPI' one. It's one of the default configurations in Windows so you don't have to download anything. Just update the driver and choose what driver you want to install.
