Hi, I have managed to correrctly configure internet sharing on the wireless network. However applications such as EDonkey, Emule cannot see ports 4622 etc.. If the Netgear is removed and the modem connected straight through to the ethernet port of the pC EDonkey is OK (although Emule is not!) Problem is I need EDonkey to work on the wireless network. I have norton security 2005 installed and windows XP professional edition.

I've tried port forwarding/triggering on the Netgear etc.. I've got no idea of networking abovea simple ISP connection setup. Any help will be gratefuly recieved.
 
Disable any client firewalls on your system like XP's firewall, Norton's, ZoneAlarm, etc. Also, give the system you plan on filesharing with a static IP, so that your port forwarding "sticks". Finally, be sure your P2P software is configured to utilize the port range you've opened on your router.

Thanks i've tried but still no luck.
I have opened TCP 4662 and UDP 4672 (via port forwarding) on the modem and connected the modem to my machine directly - EMule works perfectly! Probelms start when connecting it to the NETGear wirleless router. I tried using the same settings for port forwarding on the NETGEAR router but it still does not work.
I'm not sure if I'm opening the ports correctly so that the port is opened all the way through. I've run out of ideas
 
Let me get this straight -- are you actually using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) by connecting through Windows PCs, or is everything connected directly to the router?

I'm not using ICS, the computer is recieving an IP from the router which is also the DHCP server.

By the way you make it sound, your "modem" sounds like a router! Modems are passive with the handling of packets to your network; the moment it starts manipulating packets (dropping them, redirecting, etc), it becomes a router. If you have one router behind another, that could definately couse some port forwarding issues. Could you please post some information on your modem's brand, model number, and any other pertinent information? Thanks. :)

Model: Sitecom ADSL modem DC-213 (uk)
Firmware : CX82xxx_4.1.0.9_B211
Customer Software Version: 4.1.0.9_Si213_B211

I bought my wireless netgear router and then found out that I needed an ethernet modem! So I bought the nearest I could find in the nearest available shops, desperate to get the wireless network up and running for my family!
 
Judging by this screenshot, it is indeed a router in addition to being a modem. Actually, it looks like more of a router with modem-like features than a modem with router-like features. Are you using a wireless network? If so, you're going to have to make some changes to your configuration to get things going. If not, you might want to just remove the Netgear from the equation and use the DC-213 by itself. It's a true SPI firewall!
 
Yes I am trying to use the modem on a wireless network. I using the NeTgear wgt624 v2 to provide this. They both work together for general browsing but it just the use of certain applications (like emule) which require certain ports, although MSN messenger seems fine!
 
The networking complexity of being behind two SPI firewalls makes things a bit difficult. You're going to have to make sure that both routers are passing along their routing tables, for starters. Each router is a little different and I don't own either, so you'll have to consult the documentation on each to learn how to do that. Let me know when you've got them passing routing tables and we'll go from there.
 
hi nick numpty hear ive got a netgear wgt624 router i can get them to communicate with each other but can not get on the net i have a laptop and a wirelesscard netgear 511 any help would be appreciated thanks numpty ps im a total novice with pcs etc
