I know what it is (vaguely), but I was thinking, high end gfx cards generate enough heat already, but with 2 stuck next to each other with about 1/2 an inch between the two, surely has to generate a huge amount of heat??

I mean the H/S on those cards look plenty big enough to take the heat out from the board, but still, that's a lot of hot air!

Yea but it should be ok if you have enough ventilation through the case with extra case fans. It will proably increase case temperatures by around 5c maybe.

That's right. But, in practical terms, the NV6800GT is CPU-bottlenecked even as only a single card, even with an AMD FX53+. SLI for a card like that would just be a waste of money with current single-CPU Windows systems. In addition, SLI'ing two 6600's would be about the same speed as a single 6800GT, and would cost a little more!

Right now, there are no games that require two cards. The nvidia sli certified games wont be coming out for about another 6 months or so. But putting those two next to each other will create a little more heat. Look at the asus a8n sli, there is a nice gap in between the two 16x pcie slots so there is a bit more breathing room. Since I'm upgrading right now, i'm going with the asus a8n and am goin to get teh 6800gt sli, but only one. THere is no need for two right now. Later on, you can upgrade if you want to getting two 6800gt's
