Whilst browsing though my BIOS, I found a setting called 'Smart Fan'.

I know that this turns the fan of when the CPU is cool enough to run without one, but is it wise to enable it? My CPU rarely gets above 30C with the fan running non stop & It's a noisy little beast.

Was just wondering if enabling this would have any long term effects on my CPU or not.

    I'm running a AMD Semphron 3000+.

Turn it on, monitor your temps, if they start to rise and the fan doesn't spin up enable it again.

The only way to really tell is to try it, as long as you keep an eye on the CPU temp and stress the CPU a bit to make sure the fan does spin up (usually the fan doesnt shut off completely, it'll just spin slower) it should be fine.
