I was hoping I could get suggestions for two types of software I am looking for. The two types of software I am looking for are hardware based software -- meaning software that you use to test hardware that is in your computer for troubleshooting purposes. I do have the memtest program that you are able to run through the initial startup for my system memory, although I am unsure of how it exactly works or if there is a better program to test your memory. Is there a standard hard drive program that will test whether there is any problem with your hard drives or is it based solely on the type of hard drive you have? What sort of software is recommended when trying to determine what the cause of a memory core dump is? I know some of these could relate to hard drive problems, memory problems, but I am at a loss at to what else to check. I have had problems with this every now and again, but not on a continual basis. I know that hardware specs are generally asked in these regards...... The board says it is an ECS K7S5A model, and I have an athlon xp 2200+, with 1GB ram, a Raedon 9950, two dvd burners (one sony, and one LG), and two HDs....one WD 40GB, and the other Maxtor 300GB. The other software I am looking for is spyware and anti-virus related. What is the better ant-virus based software to use that will cause fewer headaches. At the moment I am using Avast. Is there a better software to be using? Based on Spyware I have Microsoft Defender, Spyware Search and Destroy, and ad-aware 6.0. Are there better software packages out there that should be used in conjunction with what I have or is there software that I have that I should remove because its not the best? Input in this matter would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
I'd thoroughly reccomend TrendMicro Internet Security. Antivirus, phishing, adware, Vulnerabilitis etc Its good, it works well for me, quick with the updates and as customisable as u want it.
