somethings wrong please help

Ok I am stumped I have purchased a new motherboard an MSI km4m-v to be exact all my other components work. the problem is when I power on the system it tries to begin to post the screen shows for a brief second then the entire system shuts down please do not ask what other components I have they are not the problem

Any advise would greatly be apprieciated thanks
 
Make sure all your cabels are connected properly, are you getting any beeping? This could be a heat factor or lack of sufficient power. If you're sure that the other components aren't the problem then we can only assume it's a mobo or connection prob. I'm assuming you installed it properly, avioding any static discharge or course, and the jumpers are set correctly etc. For future reference you could always submit a list of your system components under the "my computer" tab. If nothing else you can use it for bragging rights.
 
And did you test your setup outside the casing before you put everything in? I always do this with a new mobo -- it helps to clear up any doubts about it when it's aleady inside the box with all those screws already in place..
 
Oh man, I just bought that MOBO some hours ago, and it's already giving me problems too. PC boots, but no video, just spinning fans :mad: . Then, after disconecting and reconnecting the power cable like 10 times, it boots. Then back to no booting again. I mean, what the . . .
After 2 hours of trying to solve the issue I just feel like :guns: to it.
 
Dannyjos, I read your other post on this issue also, and the best thing to do is get a replacement mobo asap. You shouldn't have to put up with this sort of problem, especially in a new motherboard. I had this problem before, but it was with an old mobo. As if the darned thing had a mind of its own and would boot up only when the moon is full, or the tide is high, hehehe. The problem was caused by leaky capacitors in the supply rail -- the large ones around the CPU socket. But they were at least two years old already. Yours are new, so replace the board buddy -- no other reliable way to get around this problem.
 
thank everyone for your reply as of yesterday I was think that possibly even though my cpu was good and the mobo say it supports it I thought even though it say it does what if it doesn't so I went out bought a new cpu cause I figured if its not the cpu at lest the computer will be faster well when I finished inserting the new cpu and flipped the switch low and behold it booted right up so the problem was with the mobo not wanting to support my old cpu

Heh. I just looked at this thread. I had an MSI KM4AM-V that did not support 200MHz FSB (2x100). Took me hours before I finally figured that out. It's not just the MSI...a good chunk of the newer Socket A boards seem to ditch support for the older 200MHz FSB CPUs.
