I have Sony VGN T1XP that I bought from John Lewis 2 years ago.

After 22 months it started to develop a problem whereby it shut itself down as though the power was cut. I thought it might be a loose battery connection and thereafter used it on the mains for a week and it was fine mostly, but then started to do the same. It then started to have problems booting up until it just died and would not start up. It was under warranty.

After sending it to Sony, JL say it can be repaired or else I can have just under £600 cash. It will be out of warranty by the time it comes back to me ( will get 1 month warranty out of goodwill plus 3 months on the specific fault - which I will find out in due course).

There don't seem to be any decent small laptops like it on the market for less than £1000. I really don't want anything bigger than 11" screen.

I'm thinking of getting it repaired or else taking the cash and buying a second hand one.

I know that computer specs have moved on and I can get a better spec machine for about £900 with a 13" screen. If could find a small screen model that was decent for around £700 or less then, that would do.

    Any views gratefully received.

I think it would be more beneficial to get the computer back.(the part the fix will have warranty on it. Sounds like a power supply to me).

You could always upgrade if it isnt what you want.

But it is your choice :D

    thanks for the reply.

What is your reason for having it back fixed? and would you have a different view if it had a fault other than the one you feel it has?

    Its a personal thing really.

I would rather keep something that i have paid for and get it fixed. Like i have done with my laptop. And i love it :D

Check with the Apple Mac books, they have some with very small size, I mean I never looked at the size of the screen but they looks very small in front of other laptops. So u jst check that fist nd get a new one if possible with good config ;)
