sony vaio laptop problem - please help me

Hi

I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio laptop a couple of months ago and all was fine until a couple of weeks. The problem is the function key, the numbers are active on the keyboard and am trying to switch over to use the letters etc but the function key and shift do not work properly. if I hold it switches over but as soon as I let go numbers are active again. cannot type with one hand

PLEASE HELP - what am I doing wrong
