Sony Vaio wont start completely dead

Hi I was working on word 2007 doc and the laptop crashed. It wont start now, powersupply ok, with without battery
Can any one give me any tips of trouble shooting. If it has to be repaired can you suggest something in London. Sony company service is too expensive
