Does anyone know how to dismantle a sony vgn A417M laptop in order to replace the hard drive?

you probably don't need to dismantle it, you probably just need to remove a couple of screws near the front on the underside, check the manual, will keep looking for instructiions

I've tried reading the manual and have removed all the screws that I possibly can..and the keyboard but it still seems to be struck.. any ideas..

look in the picture and open these type of places, you will find your HDD in one.

i don't think you need to remove anything (except a panel and probably your HDD will slide out, when you've pulled hard enough to disconnect it)!

does your laptop look idenitical to karan pic ?
 
HI I looked in all the placed indicated in Karanislove's pic. The laptop looks identical to the one in the pic. The hard drive appears to be in the lower right hard corner shown in the pic. any more ideas...please...
 
pic back in opera, can you see any removable panels near where you think the HDD is located, there will also be a screw securing the HDD in the laptop
 
Hi,

I tried taking the keyboard out but I still cannot access the hdd. It appears that only the Ram, battery can be accessed via the panels under the the laptop.
