I have intel 4 processor with onboard ac97 sound.. windows xp home.. i had to reinstall windows and since then i cannot get sound.. i get message no hardware/software detected or something like that. I have tried all of Windows solutions. provided i did them correctly . also have updated my drivers from intel website. I dont know whats wrong ...help..

Check device manager. If the driver isn't installed, but the device is detected, you'll see it with a yellow exclamation point there.

I assume you installed them and then rebooted, right?
Try reinstalling them from device manager. Just right click on the device, and go to update drivers or properties...either way works, but the first option is more direct. Have it automatically find the drivers for you and see if that works. If not, you may have to direct it to the location of the driver.
