"Split-second" apps problems

Hi guys,
If this problem has already been addressed, I apologize; I might have overlooked it.

Some applications that I double click on will flash up on the screen for a split second and thats it. There's no time for me to do anything. So far these are the ones I'm having trouble with and almost all of them are for Windows XP:

Windows Security Center
Windows Firewall
the Device Manager is even doing it!
limewire
**********************

I have XP with service pack 2 and I believe I've gone through every update.
I've ran ad-aware and Spybot; I've ran Norton's anti-virus.

Anyone else have suggestions? Thanks.

Well given you are running LimeWire and SP2, it is likely that due to all the traffic coming into your PC via Limewire, and leaving it assuming you share is gonna be causing problems. I'd remove LW and see if that fixes it.
